Breaking News: Inverness Miners Museum Not Opening 2024

A statement from the board of the Inverness Historical Society:

“It is with a heavy heart that the Inverness Historical Society announces our departure from our long-standing home, the Ned MacDonald Historical Complex, where we've resided for nearly five decades. While we deeply regret this development, we are grateful to Mary Catherine Magee for her support in hosting the Miners Museum since her purchase of the location a few years ago.

The Historical Society’s team understands that this change may bring disappointment to many in our community and county. Our board completely shares these sentiments and recognizes the significance of our presence at the Ned MacDonald Historical Complex. However, preserving and showcasing the history of Inverness remains our top priority. Our society remains financially capable and this will be an asset going forward as we actively seek a new location.

We believe community involvement is essential to the process of finding a new home for the Inverness Miners Museum. We invite the support and input of our community members as we search for a new home. If any kind-hearted Invernessers have any ideas or suggestions you believe could help us find a new location, you can reach out at museuminverness@gmail.com. In the meantime, we have made the decision to lean into our online presence.

In the coming months, the Inverness Miners Museum will operate as an online institution, and we will continue our efforts to maintain our community outreach. As our late curator Neddy MacDonald once said, “the character of a community are those things which we wish to preserve.” This effort has never been more important. Together, we can and will navigate this change. We look forward to engaging with you all and appreciate your ongoing support.

Sincerely,
The Inverness Historical Society”
